  • Amino acids
Building blocks of proteins, muscles and neurotransmitters:
    - Essential - There are nine amino acids that the body either cannot produce at all or cannot make in sufficient quantity to meet its needs. They are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine.
    - Non-essential - These amino acids are considered nonessential due to the fact that they can be made in the body from the essential amino acids. They are: alanine, arginine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, hydroxyproline, proline, serine and tyrosine.

  • Antioxidants
Antioxidants play a vital role in protecting the cells from oxidation caused by free radicals (unstable oxygen molecules from pollution, stress, etc.). They include vitamins C, E, beta carotene, the mineral selenium, and herbs such as rosemary, Pycnogenol® (a registered trademark of Horphag Research. Ltd.), schizandra, cranberry, lutein and lycopene.* Certain antioxidants used topically may help protect skin from free-radical damage.
    PROTECT THOSE BABY BLUES
Antioxidants already do so much for our bodies. And now they’re found to provide incredible support to our eyesight. In the October 2001 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology, a vitamin-antioxidant preparation was shown to reduce the likelihood of blindness for those with established macular degeneration by a whopping 25%.

    NATURAL RELAXATION
There's a reason why ashwaghanda is considered a wonder herb in India. The Alternative Medicine Review published a survey of research conducted on the uses of ashwaghanda, concluding that it is a safe herb with antitumor, antistress, antioxidant and rejuvenating properties. Ashwaghanda is often used in studies designed to better understand chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Research published in the Journal of Medicinal Food examined the impact of natural antioxidants, including ashwaghanda, on CFS in mice. The results showed that antioxidants like ashwaghanda minimized periods of immobility in the mice following forced exercise, suggesting that oxidative stress may play a role in CFS.
