Q&A about Garden 7 ®

Garden 7 ® is a dietary supplement containing phytonutrients,, which are special plant nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. Below, Dr. David Heber answers questions about Garden 7 ®.

Q: Why is it important to get 7 daily servings of fruits and vegetables?
A:
Fruits and vegetables provide a wealth of nutrients–healthy carbohydrates to provide energy for the body, plus vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C and potassium the body needs every day for good health. To get the most health benefit, current recommendations are that individuals get five to nine servings a day of fruits and vegetables. But with our busy lifestyles and eating on the run, many people don’t often get all the fruit and vegetable servings they should.

Q: Is that where Garden 7 ® dietary supplement comes in?
A:
Exactly. Garden 7 ® was designed to help bridge the nutritional gap for those of us who don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables in our daily diet. It provides a combination of key plant-based nutrients equivalent to the phytonutrients in seven servings of fruits and vegetables. Garden 7 ® tablets don’t replace the need for fruits and vegetables; rather, they supplement them to help ensure we’re receiving the daily benefits of all the natural, colorful phytonutrients for good overall health.

Q: What does the term “phytonutrient” mean?
A:
Phytonutrients are ‘plant-based nutrients’–substances in plant foods that are not vitamins or minerals, but which have important health benefits. Many phytonutrients provide plants with their beautiful colors. Fruits and vegetables can be classified into seven distinct color groups, based on the predominant phytonutrient in them. For example, lycopene is a phytonutrient that provides the red color to tomatoes and watermelon and the pink color to grapefruit. While strawberries are also red, their color comes from a different phytonutrient, a pigment common in other berries like cranberry. So it’s not enough just to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables daily. It’s also important to eat a broad range of fruits and vegetables to get the benefits of all seven color groups.
